Webb21 nov. 2014 · Re: Engine Removal. I must admit I've always separated the engine from the gearbox on MGBs and MGAs before hoisting the engine from the car. This makes the hoisting easier and avoids the steep angle needed to get the combined unit out, plus reducing weight seemed important when all I had years ago was a Haltrac hoist. I understand that it is possible if you get it rotated just right but I have always removed the engine and tranny together and then the clutch goes in with everything out on the floor where it is easier to work with. Webb28 jan. 2024 · If you are just going to work on the transmission and re-seal it, then I would just remove the transmission itself. If there are any engine jobs that need to be done (also re-sealing, hose replacement from the power steering and heater, etc.) then I recommend removing the engine and transmission as a unit. WebbGet at least one friend to help out, as it is not an easy job on your own. Although it may seem that the removal would be easier if the engine and transmission were separated while still in the car, the easiest way is to pull the engine and transmission as one unit with your engine hoist located directly in front of the car.
